The SC4 Men's Basketball team is rolling. The Skippers entered the contest as the #10 ranked team in NJCAA Division II and have extended their win streak to 13 games. The Skippers had five different scorers in double figures. Leading the way for the Skippers was guard Tyler Hamilton as he scored 26 points, had 8 assists, 5 rebounds, and 4 steals. An all-around performance from the 6-foot guard out of Detroit. Hamilton scored his 26 points off 10-16 shooting from the field, including 4-8 from deep.
The Skippers jumped out to an early lead as they were able to score 10 points before the Vikings were on the scoreboard. The Skippers were up by as many as 37 points as they held a commanding 47-10 lead with 5:19 left in the first half. At halftime the Skippers were up 53-24. The three-ball helped the Skippers gain their early lead as they shot 52.9% from deep in the first half on 9-17 shooting. Compared to the 0-9 shooting from the beyond the arc for the Vikings in the first half.
The second leading scorer on the night for SC4 was sophomore Caron Clayton as he finished with 18 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals. Kelvin Balfour, Larrie Bell, and Daquan Coleman were the remaining players in double digit scoring as they finished with 12, 10, and 12 respectively. Larrie Bell finished one rebound shy of a double-double and Balfour pulled in 5 rebounds to go along with two blocked shots.
The Skippers had the edge in shooting percentage for the game even with struggling in the second half. For the game the Vikings shot an abysmal 2-18 from three, a shooting percentage of just 11%. The Skippers hot hand cooled off a tad in the second half as they finished 12-35 from three which is good enough for a 34.3 shooting percentage.
The Skippers will take a break from action as they don't play again until after the New Year. On January 7th, the Skippers will welcome the Jayhawks of Muskegon Community College to the SC4 fieldhouse for a 3 PM tipoff.
