Battle Creek, MI – SC4 competed in the NJCAA Region XII Golf Championship on Monday and Tuesday (May 13 and 14). The championship was held at Bedford Valley Golf Course which is a part of Gull Lake Golf Club. The championship consists of 36 holes on day one and another 18 holes on day two.
There were 11 teams competing in the event including Grand Rapids Community College, Montcalm Community College, Oakland Community College, Muskegon Community College, Glen Oaks Community College, Mott Community College, Jackson College, Schoolcraft College, Delta College, Kirtland Community College, and the Skippers.
The team shot a total score of 980 (328, 327, 325) over the three rounds which placed them 7th out of 11 teams. The Skippers were led by sophomore Tyler Simpson who shot a 235 (75, 81, 79) and finished tied for 10t place. His first round 75 was good enough for a first-place tie but he couldn't keep up the pace for the last 36 holes. Colin O'Dean finished tied for 22 and shot a 244 (88, 79, 77). Josh VanderVyver shot a 253 (82, 84, 87) taking 35th place while fellow freshman Dalton Sempf finished right behind him shooting a 256 (87, 87, 82). Timothy McClelland rounded out the SC4 line up shooting a 258 (84, 83, 91) and finishing tied for 39th.
This tournament marks the end of the Skippers men's golf season. A Season which included winning their home match at Port Huron Golf Club and 2 medalist finished by sophomore Colin O'Dean.
