Port Huron, MI - The Lady Skippers opened up their cross country season with a home meet, competing in the Skipper's Cross Country Showcase on Friday, August 29th. The squad raced into 2nd place, bested only by Grand Rapids Community College and beating 5 other junior college schools. They also beat Lawerence Tech University, which is an NAIA school.
Finishing as the Skipper's number one runner was Kate Bennett, placing 6th overall and earning Top Ten honors. Bennett beat her pervious time on the same course by 3 minutes and 16 seconds and was only 8 seconds off her lifetime personal record in 20:42. Brynn Hurley was only seconds behind her teammate, finishing in 20:55.3, placing 8th and earning Top Ten honors. Hurley beat her previous season opener by 7 seconds. Running third for the team was Rowan Conley, finishing in 21:21.7. Conley placed 13th overall. Julia Rogers ran 4th for the team, placing 20th overall in a time of 21:46.9. This is about 2 minutes faster than her time here last year at the same meet. Jenna Denver was the only sophomore competing for the Skippers, running a time of 22:25.0. Denver placed 27th overall. Denver's efforts put her in the top half of the race field with teammate Charlotte O'Brien. O'Brien placed 29th overall in a time of 22:32.0.
