Rockford, IL – The Skippers headed to McHenry Community College in Rockford, IL to play in the Opening Weekend Volleyball Tournament on Friday (Aug. 23) and Saturday (Aug. 24)
Day one featured a 1:00 PM game against Carl Sandburg College and a 3:00 PM game against 11th ranked Des Moines Area Community College.
SC4 got off to a slow start in game one, dropping both first 2 sets (25-15, 25-20) before bouncing back and winning the 3rd set 27-25. They would battle in the 4th set but would ultimately lose it 26-24 and the match 3-1. The Skippers swiss army knife, Piper Clark was good for 13 kills, 16 assists, 2 aces, 10 digs, and 3 block assists. Lauren LaBaza led the team with 20 digs.
Game two was tight the whole way. The Skippers took on the 11th ranked Bears from Des Moines Area Community College. SC4 dropped the first set 25-16 and the second set 25-22 but bounced back in a big way, winning the next 3 sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-10) to take the match 3-2. Piper Clark once again had a great all-around game, contributing 12 kills, 23 assists, 4 aces, 10 digs, and a block assist to the effort. Megan DeSantis also added 12 kills, 4 assists, 6 aces, 13 digs, and a block assist. Freshman Riley Robertson was all over the place picking up a team high 16 digs.
The Skippers will be back at it again tomorrow when they take on Florida State College at Jacksonville and Morton College at 8:00 AM and 2:15 PM respectively.
