UNIVERSITY CENTER, MI. — The St. Clair County Community College men's track team continued its strong start to the indoor season on Friday, January 16, delivering an impressive slate of performances at the SVSU Classic. The Skippers turned in multiple personal bests, season bests, and heat victories as momentum builds early in the campaign.
The Skippers opened competition on the track with a sharp performance from Donte Fenderson, who clocked 7.24 in the 60m dash to kick off the day. Fenderson returned to the track later in the meet with another strong outing, running 23.22 in the 200m to pace SC4 in the sprint group.
Teammate Bryce Barkowska continued the sprinting success, delivering one of the day's standout efforts with a personal-best 52.69 in the 400m, showcasing major growth early in the season.
SC4's momentum carried into the middle-distance events, where Luke Meyer secured his second heat win of the year while posting a season-best 2:00.36 in the 800m. Meyer's performance set the tone for an exceptional showing from the entire 800m group.
Right behind him came two more breakthrough efforts:
- Korbyn Thornton — PR 2:02.13
- Wyatt Murtos — PR 2:02.36
The trio delivered one of the strongest collective 800m outings of the season for the program.
In the distance events, Dylan Schumann led the Skippers with a determined race in the 3,000m, crossing the line in a season-best 9:48. His effort anchored a productive day for the distance squad as they continue to build strength and consistency in early-season competition.
The meet concluded with a strong performance in the 4x400m relay as Bryce Barkowska, Thomas Kann, Donte Fenderson, and Cameron Cronce teamed up to run 3:33.80, closing out the competition with one of the group's best relay showings of the year.
With personal records across sprint, middle-distance, and relay events, Friday marked another encouraging step for SC4 as the roster continues to build depth and momentum in the early stages of the indoor season.
The Skippers return to action next week as they continue their winter schedule.
