SC4 Softball Earns First Win of the Season in Walk-Off Thriller, 5–4 Over USC Union

MYRTLE BEACH, SC. — The St. Clair County Community College (SC4) Skippers softball team captured its first win of the 2026 season in dramatic fashion on Monday, delivering a 5–4 walk-off victory over USC Union. The exciting finish also secured the first career win for new head coach Courtney LaBuhn, making the moment even more memorable for the program.

The Skippers entered the bottom of the seventh inning down 4–3 before coming through with a decisive two-run frame.

SC4's offense came alive throughout the lineup, producing eight total hits. Annabelle Schneider sparked the attack with a 1-for-3 performance, tallying two runs. Makayla Hennessey delivered two hits, and two runs, while Haylee Hodges, Marisa Raymo, and Addyson Caten each added key contributions — including Caten's double that helped fuel the early scoring.

The pitching tandem of Jenna Maday and Lillian Peitz kept the Skippers in position to win. Maday worked 5.0 strong innings, allowing only two hits. Peitz earned the save with 2.0 innings of relief, striking out two to secure the victory.

The win gives SC4 plenty of momentum as they continue their early-season schedule — and celebrates an important milestone for Coach LaBuhn.

The Skippers are back in action later this week.
