University Center, MI - Only 3 Skippers competed at the SVSU Classic on Friday, January 16. Several members of the women's track team have been sidelined by either illness or injury. However, these setbacks did not interfere with the efforts of Brynn Hurley, Jenna Denver, and Julia Rogers.
Hurley and Denver both competed in the Mile event, taking 19th (5:33.49) and 32nd (6:24.44) respectively. Hurley's time is a lifetime personal record by 12 seconds and secures her as the #2 Skipper on the top ten list.
Denver later joined teammate Rogers in the 800m. Rogers claimed 13th place with a time of 2:40.34 while Denver finished in 24th place with a time of 2:52.33. Rogers also competed in the 400m dash prior, taking 12th place with a time of 1:07.78. Rogers is now ranked #2 in the 400m and #4 in the 800m in the top ten lists.
Ending the day for the ladies was Hurley in the 3,000m run. Finishing with a strong kick, she managed a 9th place finish out of 29 competitors. Her time of 11:07.65 broke the SC4 school record by 16 seconds and is also her own personal record.
The team has a quick turnaround, as they compete at the GVSU Bill Clinger Invite hosted by Grand Valley State University on Friday, January 23rd.
